What is the Difference Between Dedicated Hosts and Dedicated Instances on AWS?

Before we go to the differences, lets highlight the similarities.

Similarity: Compliance

Both services give the option to launch instances to your own Dedicated Hosts with resources that will not be consumed by other customers.

Similarity and difference: Pricing

Generally you are paying around a 10% premium vs. on-demand instances. While for DH you have to fill the physical host completely to attain that, for DI you don’t need to achieve that to get that price.

The differences are similarised neatly in this table, from AWS documentation.
